JP Chapa

I am a professional fine artist based in Querétaro, Mexico.

Born in Mexico City, I began my journey in oil painting and drawing at an early age. I learned pastel techniques at Esperanza Vergara’s painting workshop and participated in two group exhibitions at Pedro’s Domecq Art Room in Coyoacán. I earned diplomas in Art History and in Psychoanalysis and Art Psychology from the Hellenic Cultural Institute of Mexico.

At the onset of the COVID‑19 pandemic in 2020, I began practicing watercolor techniques. I later became a regular student of Patricia Guzmán in 2022 and Malac in 2023. In 2024, I participated in workshops with Cuauhtémoc Velázquez and José Apaza Ilich, in 2025 with Jung Hun-Sung and in 2026 with Pablo Rubén, Nicolás López, Jorge Corpuna and Richard Chao.

In 2023, I became a member of the Querétaro Watercolor Association (AQuA), through which I took part in six group exhibitions, including The Magic of Mexican Colors at the National Museum of Watercolor, Contrasts at the Carol Rolland Foundation, Mi Querétaro Lindo at the Calendar Museum of Querétaro, and Melodías of Colour at the Bernardo Quintana Art Center.

I also participated independently in the VII National Meeting of Watercolor “Raúl Torres Aguilar” in Los Mochis and in the 69th National Watercolor Salon in 2024, where I received the Tlacuilo award in the Landscape category and was invited in 2026 to participate in the 4th International Watercolour Exhibition in Fremantle, Australia.

In February 2025, I was accepted into the Mexican Watercolor Society.
